Tiruppur city is known best for the Indian freedom fighter Tiruppur Kumaran who was killed by the British army while marching an agitation against the British Government.
Tirupur was formerly merged with Coimbatore district and later it has been segregated as a separate district.
Tirupur city is known for textile and dyeing industries. Tiruppur is also providing employment to many peoples in and around Tiruppur and also other areas of Tamilnadu and neighboring state. Nowadays people from many part of India are also finding employment here.
